Sun is the god for good
health. Many mantras in Vedas are dedicated to him. He was born to Adhithi,
hence he is called Adhithya. Sun is the prathyaksha narayana murthy i.e. god
whom we can see before us in physical form. Now we will see details of his 12
names (dvadasadithyas) in 12 months. This is explained in 12th
skaMdham of Bhagavatam.
In one year he traverses the
twelve Zodaic houses / stars residing in these 12 houses for one month / masam each.
In chaitram Sun houses himself in Chiththa nakshthram hence the name of the
month. Similarly for all these 12 months. Sun in this journey is called
Adhithya in general. He will have separate 12 names for 12 months as shown
bellow. He will receive different worships with those names.
